Baia dos Porcos Beach

One of the beauties of Baia dos Porcos (Bay of Pigs) is the contrast between the dark rocks and rugged terrain of the volcanic island and the clear translucent surrounding water. When the tide is low the reef forms many natural pools and a rich colorful marine life emerges. The beach is too small to sunbathe so to appreciate the beauty of the marine life, it is best to enter the water.
You should carry snorkeling gear for a dip, because the locals generally say “ Going to Fernando de Noronha and no diving is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope”. Another tip is to dive into the Buraco do Inferno (Hell Hole), a dive for beginners. Very quiet and beautiful. It's true!
The water is warm all year round (around 24 º C) and clear (visibility greater than 30 meters except in January and February), excluding the marine fauna in the region. The electricity supply is 220v on the island.
The weather is tropical and the water is warm, so don´t forget to bring light clothes, sunscreen, sandals or trainers for walking. You should wear a hat when strolling at the beaches and wear insect repellent for the nasty mosquitoes.
There is also a boat ride where they serve a delicious fish cooked on board. It's worth it. Sometimes dolphins appear at side the boat.
There are daily flights to Noronha, with departures from Recife (1h and 20mins) and Natal (55mins). There are two local airlines, Gol and Trip, that make daily trips to Noronha. Fernando de Noronha can be visited throughout the year. For those who want to dive, we recommend September and October, when the sea is more calm. And for surfers, January is a good time to go because there are good waves then.
During the months of July and December to February, the population on the island increases, so you should make reservations well in advance. The total number of tourists on the island is restricted and visitors shall pay a daily environmental fee that increases with the length of stay.
In 2001, UNESCO included Fernando de Noronha in the list of World Heritage Sites.
