1. A natural swimming pool! December 19, 2010 07:57

Voulolimni (i.e. sunk lake) is located 70km southeast of Chania and 500m northwest of Chrysoskalitissa monastery. It is actually a crater, surrounded by rocks, forming a small lake. Voulolimni is not actually a beach, but the rocky "pool" for the residents of Chrysoskalitissa.

The small salt lake is very well protected by strong winds that blow in the area. Thus, it is used as a local harbor for small boats. The water is very deep and dark, that might cause some fear to most swimmers.

There are no facilities near the lake, however there are several rooms and taverns in Chrysoskalitissa.
